Autin City Limits Music Festival (ACL) in Austin, Texas at Zilker Park is, in one word – HOT. It was also hot with music and fun just like the rest of Austin, Texas.
ACL is an annual music festival that is a spin-off of the KLRU/PBS music series of the same name. In addition to the music there are food and drink vendors at ACL Eats, it offers the most delicious festival food, drinks and sweets from Austin and the surrounding area’s favorite restaurants.
New this year they have even more ACL Eats locations around the park! Amy’s Ice Cream, Chi’Lantro, mmmpanadas, Southside Flying Pizza, Tino’s Greek Café, and Wholly Cow Burgers will all have a second location in addition to the ACL Eats Food Court, near the south end of the park.
They have an Art Market as well. It is your one-stop shop for local and national artisans. From accessories and head gear to boots and posters, you can browse a quality selection of goods from more than a dozen artisans. Art vendors will be open all day.
New to the Art Market this year they have Craft setting up an interactive shop within the Art Market. Want to make your own flower clown? Want to personalize your own postcard? Stop on by for those activities and more!
Founded in 2002, originally it was a one-weekend event, then in 2013 ACL expanded to two consecutive weekends.
Due to the recent tragedy in Las Vegas, at the Route 91 Harvest Festival during the Jason Aldeen show and although the perpetrator was in a hotel away from the venue, the security at the Austin City Limits was ramped up and the tightened security caused long lines. Nothing wrong with erring on the side of caution. People with vaporizers were being turned away while people with large flags are welcomed with open arms.
The festival is setup and laid out pretty well to make it easy for everyone. It is a spacious festival with a similar setup to Voodoo fest in New Orleans. One where the stages do not impede on each other and you can move freely from one act to another with ease. They did a great job with bathroom placement on each side of all three main stages. They even have urinals as to keep some of the regular toilets clean.
The festival is not short of attendance and is sold out. Be sure to get your tickets for next year’s fest early! Here are some pictures of the day.
