You only have to take one look at the Pensacola Beach Pier sunrise and sunset photographs, and videos, to be instantly transported to Santa Rosa Island.
Each day on Facebook, the Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier photographs garner a lot of attention. Those near and (very) far are checking in on the lovely photographs, liking, commenting and sharing on their own pages or on others.
Curious about who and why these photos were being taken each day, Out and About arranged to meet the Pier Manager at sunrise. It was a cold windy day, however as soon as the sun broke through it was so stunning, you don’t even notice.
Pier Manager, Kip Walker has lived in the area since 1990, and two years ago became the Pier Manager.
According to Walker, “I started taking the pictures at sunrise and sunset (some mid-day), because I am a beach person. This area is incredible and looks so different each day. I also had college friends who wanted to see where I was working. It is not for promotion reasons.”
It may not be for promotional reasons, however we beg to differ, it is a virtual postcard highlighting the beauty of the beach year round.
Walker shoots the photos and videos, rain or shine. He often has to cover up the camera with Ziploc bags and fight 30 mph winds.
I asked if he knew what the photos mean to people who used to live here, have visited the area or are thinking of coming here and can visit virtually, Walker said, “Yes, I do. Many live out of town now and we can bring a little bit of Pensacola Beach to them. That is why I added video. The video can transport you to the serenity of the beach when you are having a stressful day.”
The Pensacola Beach Pier is more than beautiful white sand, great sunrises and sunsets, gorgeous emerald green water, it will soon be the home of a new World of Beer location, called Sunset. It will be a tiki bar, featuring live music, a target open date of May, 1.
Papa’s Pizza is also housed in the landing of the Pier now.
The Pier offers you the ability to walk on the pier and observe for $1.25, and it is $7.50 to fish. They offer annual passes for you avid fisherman. You can also win a pier pass if you catch the first King Mackerel or Cobia, a $258 value.
The Pier is partnering with some local business leaders and creating a surf calendar to raise money for the Cancer Society, they are also going to “Pink the Pier”. This is a cause the employees of the pier are close to, having lost family members recently to breast cancer and others currently fighting the disease.
The Pier is a great vantage point for the Tuesday night summer concert series, Bands on the Beach. And, of course the Pier is the entry point for the Blue Angels Air Show, returning this year.
As I like to say, enjoy the view!
