Out and About Pensacola was recently exploring new places to buy vinyl records and was pleasantly surprised by Mister Groovy’s, located at 3098 Gulf Breeze Parkway in Gulf Breeze — they are a Mecca of affordable entertainment.
We spoke with Mary Shriver, daughter of John Shriver, whom is the owner of Mister Groovy’s. They are from Iowa and have been here on the gulf coast since August of 2014. They have such a large selection, you can spend a long time thumbing your way through the rows and rows of CD’s, DVD’s, Vinyl, Blue Ray Discs, and Video games from multiple consoles ranging from NES to PS4.
The Shriver’s have accumulated their collection from various fire sales, lot clearances, store closures. They have four storage units here and away full of new items they are working on selling in the next coming months/years.
“That’s the exciting part of buying used vinyl, you never know what you are going to find,” Mary says, “We find all kinds of stuff left in the vinyl; from tax receipts, money, pictures, and SSN cards.” Don’t worry, she always gives the stuff back.
At Mister Groovy’s you can buy, sell, or trade so the fun really never stops. They have a really cool special where you buy 5 items, you get the 6th free. Also, if you buy 10 items you get 3 items for free. Although you can mix and match DVD’S, CD’S, jewelry, ect, the lowest priced items are going to be the free ones (nice try tricksters).
They are always playing music, which makes the shopping experience more enjoyable. “My first album was Meatloaf: Bat Out of Hell” Mary boasted. Great first Mary. Vinyl prices are depending upon the condition. If a record costs $1, there is probably a reason. They guarantee all discs sold in the store.
Mister Groovy’s is not tied to a distributor. So, if you are looking for un-opened brand new vinyl you are only going to find it if someone sold a record they never opened. A lot of people apparently come in to look for “Cheesecake Covers,” which Mary explained are covers usually featuring 60’s and 70’s pinup models. They are starting to develop quite a following and already are starting to see more returning customers.
Out & About will sure be making a trip back soon. They also have a booth at T & W Flea Market. They are in booth #50, indoors on Saturday and Sunday. They have new summer hours. Open 6 days a week. Tuesday-Sunday (Closed on Monday’s) According to their Facebook they have been working extra hard the last two weeks. They have ton’s of new LP’s and DVD’s on the shelves with a few dozen more Blue-rays & TV series available. Make sure to like them on Facebook then go buy, sell, or trade things with them, you will not be disappointed.
