Superheroes, Anime, and Bronies, oh my. Pensacon 2016 was another success.
I arrived on the last day of Pensacon, but it could have easily been the first. Walking through the parking lot there were battling knights right next to the DeLorean time machine from the Back to the Future movie series.
Inside the venue offered something for everyone’s inner nerd. Several comic book vendors, authors, Steam-punk attire, video and board games and Anime everywhere.
Pensacon celebrity circle was awesome; Bruce Boxleitner (Tron), Sid Haig (Captain Spalding from House of a 1000 Corpses), Michael Rooker (Merle on the Walking Dead and Yondu Udonta from Guardians of the Galaxy among many other credits), and almost the entire cast of the Kevin Smith movie Mallrats — just to name a few.
Many panels took part throughout all three days covering numerous topics. There was even a costume contest on Saturday to find the king and queen of Pensacon cosplay.
Pensacon is an amazing time for the entire family. I had a great time, and cannot wait for next year’s event. Till then be excellent to each other, and live long and prosper.
Update from the folks at Pensacon: Pensacon is experiencing some trouble booking the 2017 convention due to scheduling conflicts at the Pensacola Bay Center. Here is the latest from the Save Pensacon Facebook page. facebook.com/Save-Pensacon-974007736014184/timeline
Good afternoon, Pensacon fans! Things are moving in a positive direction. For now, please stop emailing the politicians so that they can work on accommodations. It is not official yet, but I am very encouraged. Since things are moving in the right direction, and because we do not want to potentially interfere with negotiations, we are going to stop actively campaigning for now. Thank you ALL for your help in promoting this cause and bringing our concerns to the politicians. You all are AMAZING!
